The History of The Elliot-Smith Clinic
The Elliot-Smith Clinic was established in 1970 by Arthur Elliot-Smith, a recently retired general surgeon, to provide a service to couples who had completed their families and wanted a more permanent form of contraception. This still applies today. Offering male sterilization under local anaesthetic at an affordable price, the Clinic performs approximately 1,000 vasectomies annually (around 38,000 to date), under local anaesthetic.
The Clinic operates on a "not for profit" basis, providing first class surgery and care, with up-to-date operating technology. It is based on the site of the Churchill Hospital campus in Oxford. We have the benefit of a long-standing, expert team. Our surgeons were all originally trained by specialists, and we continue to support their professional development and good practice. All surgeons are fully registered with the General Medical Council. Patients receive a high standard of care and patient confidentiality is preserved at all times.
The Clinic is also internationally known for its published papers.
